To get enough sleep after the long flight we’d agreed for breakfast for 9 a.m. But – we all were awake at 6.30 at latest… So we enjoyed a delicate breakfast at 8 a.m. in the Valley Eatery (now il Vinaio). A real American style breakfast, with toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, jelly… After that all had had enough. The waitress said goodbye with some German words – she turned out to be from Romania. Back to the motel, then we went to the AA, the American counterpart of the ADAC, to get some tour books. These are free of charge for members of the ADAC, and luckily we had some card holders in our party. Afterwards some shopping – a Walmart was nearby, so we got some groceries and a cap for each one of us.
Near noon we were again back at the motel, we ate something and discussed our plans for the afternoon. We all didn’t want to rest, so we decided to visit the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. The entrance fee was not cheap, but it was worth it: we got to see many plants which are native to the Sonora desert. Many of the cacti were blooming just now what looked simply wonderful. The picture was completed by some other desert animals – lizards, birds, chipmunks, also a rabbit bathed in the sun. Speaking of sun – today we had up to 33°C, fantastic!
At night our hunger forced us to go to Denny’s. Fortunately the hunger didn’t stay very long, it was satisfied by several dishes – whether salad, steak, fish or sandwiches. After that that day was over- we all were tired now.
